Logistics, IT and finance graduates in demand for work

In the Department of Supply Chain Management of the International University (DIPAE) in Katerini, the word unemployment is unknown as 84% of its graduates find a job within six months of receiving their degree. It is, in fact, typical that 20% of students are absorbed into work by the company in which they did their internship, before getting a degree.

This particular department is the only one in Greece that provides knowledge and expertise in the field of logistics at an undergraduate level, while its graduates find employment in small or large companies that have products and a supply chain and deal with transport. "Companies that procure and distribute materials have a warehouse and transport products, while this process is now done with new information systems and scientific data in which our students are trained," explains the president of the Department, Dimitris Triantafillou, to APE-MPE. He notes that in the past, those who worked in the field acquired the necessary expertise with experience, while now the positions are filled by the graduates of the Department of Supply Chain Management.

Degree in IT, Finance and very good English

For his part, the expert in the Regional Mechanism for Diagnosing Labor Market Needs of the Central Macedonia Region, Nikos Podas, points out that a university degree in computer science, combined with a very good knowledge of the English language (at a proficiency level), can secure the ticket to the labor market. space. At the same time, IEK graduates related to IT find work in Greek small businesses, which usually get contracts from foreign companies for the production of software and hardware.

In addition, graduates of civil engineering departments find work in consulting companies that manage European Union programs, while graduates of financial and business analytics departments start working immediately after their studies in companies and enterprises.

Demand for technical professions as well

At the same time, there is a great demand in the workplace for the classic technical professions as there is a shortage of welders, electricians, plumbers, photovoltaic installers, technicians, engineers, maintainers of production machines and natural gas boilers, and even clerk operators. In the latter case, in fact, as in food packaging, no special training is required, it is only necessary that some people want to learn the job in practice.

The "foam" that doesn't go away and the "well-educated" that don't go to work

Describing the work environment that is taking shape today, Mr. Podas notes that very competent professionals, with high qualifications, who in the recent past would have gone abroad in search of work, are now being absorbed in a completely meritorious manner. A typical case, according to him, is the recruitments made recently by KEPA-ANEM, an urban non-profit company, based in Thessaloniki, which is active in the planning, implementation, implementation and management of national and European programs and actions on benefits of small and medium enterprises.

On the other hand, he appreciates that there are people who reject the possibility of working in a job if it offers - for example - seven hundred euros and requires traveling by car to the other side of the city, if the job is in another city or region ( as is the case in tourism), if they are hosted by their parents who support them, if they prefer "black" work and the benefits of registering with the OAED. However, he emphasizes that the salaries may not fluctuate at the high levels of other times, but they are the beginning for someone to start their professional development. "Anyone who really needs a job doesn't miss such opportunities," he adds.
