The price tags in the supermarkets are changing

The plan for new price tags on produce in supermarkets is finally getting flesh after reports that food and other industries are pushing for increases, reducing quantities and shrinking packaging.

Under the new scheme, which will be implemented from May 15, the price per piece / price after the offer, the price per unit weight (kilograms) as well as the price per unit volume (litres) will have to be displayed.

In fact, a gazette was also issued which, among other things, provides for the following:

The information provided by the trader to the consumer about the products available for sale must be:

a) Adequate,

b) clear,

c) easily perceived and easily accessible by the consumer,

d) honest,

e) precise,

f) not misleading as to the price or quantity of the product.

The information provided, in any way, by the trader to the consumer regarding the price of the packaged product available for sale includes, as a minimum:

a) The selling price per product package,

b) the selling price per unit of measurement of the quantity of the product and

c) the name of the product.

The exceptions

a) Retail stores with an area of less than fifty (50) square meters, as long as they do not sell bakery products,

b) the booths,

c) vending machines, as long as they are not part of a store selling similar products,

d) cooked or raw food offered by catering establishments,

e) ice creams net weight up to two hundred (200) grams,

f) chocolates net weight up to one hundred (100) grams,

g) products with a net weight of up to fifty (50) grams, as long as they are sold according to usual commercial practice by the piece,

h) products with a net volume of up to fifty (50) milliliters, as long as they are sold according to normal commercial practice by the piece,

i) cosmetics and perfumery products,

j) jewelry store items
