New drugs have been added to the list of those in long-term shortage, by the National Medicines Agency. The list now includes… 235 preparations. These include preparations for diabetes, respiratory diseases, thrombosis, antibiotics, antihypertensives and paracetamol preparations.

The pandemic and skyrocketing costs of raw materials have created a combination that has put a lot of pressure on drug production, while exports have been taking place for more than a year, resulting in too many formulations being in short supply.

Medicines missing from pharmacy shelves are preparations for diabetes, respiratory diseases, thrombosis, antibiotics, antihypertensives and paracetamol preparations.

Pharmacists point out that patients have come to terms with drug shortages, while they have learned, at least for the simplest ailments, to ask for generics.

At the same time, the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association also denounced the great shortages of drugs to control type 2 diabetes.

With his announcement, he accused doctors of deceiving the electronic prescription system, declaring as "diabetic" people who are not patients, in order to receive "slimming" drugs, with a reduced participation of 10%, for the purpose of "weight control".
