The transportation of LNG by tanker from Revythoussa has started

The first supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Greece via a tanker from Revythoussa was carried out by MYTILINEOS, in collaboration with BlueGrid, while Coral also carried out the first LNG supply.

The first cargo will be delivered to a final consumer abroad, while within 2023 the supply of Greek industries with LNG will also begin (it concerns Kolios in Kilkis and Elpack in Fthiotida).

"MYTILINEOS, in collaboration with BLUEGRID, in the context of the expansion of its energy activities, achieves another "first" in the domestic natural gas market and becomes the first company to supply from the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal of Revythoussa, liquefied natural gas (LNG), via tanker, inaugurating a very important chapter for the sustainable energy supply of industries, vehicles and ships in Greece and the wider region of Southeast and Central Europe", the relevant announcement emphasizes.

BlueGrid is a member of Molgas Energy Holding the largest smallScale LNG supply group in Europe. In addition, the company, within 2023, is putting into operation the first two LNG stations for refueling heavy vehicles in Athens and Thessaloniki, paving the way for the "greening" of freight transport with a cleaner and more competitive fuel compared to corresponding petroleum products. . It is worth noting that the Molgas Group currently controls approximately 10% of the pan-European market for LNG filling stations.

Finally, BlueGrid, with the fleet of tankers it already has - and soon also with its own vessels - can also offer LNG as marine fuel in Greek ports.

As noted, the special tankers that transport the fuel to its destination by sea or by road are equipped with special safety systems to prevent leaks and explosions. In addition, trained and experienced drivers and crews are required for the safe transport of cargo.

Yesterday, moreover, the first supply of a liquefied gas (LNG) tanker of CoralGas took place in Revythoussa.

A total of 3 means of transport (tanker and containers) of CoralGas will be transported by watercraft to Revythoussa for their supply with LNG.

"CoralGas is now able to serve its customers with the smallscale LNG (SSLNG) energy solution as well," the company says, adding: "With this LNG distribution application, tankers transship the liquefied natural gas and transport it to special tanks installed in the area of industries (inside and outside Greece), which do not have access to the natural gas network, offering them all the advantages and economy they need. Such type of facilities have the ability to serve even entire industrial areas or cities, acting as supply points in hard-to-reach areas. This practice will be able to be used in our country after the relevant adjustment of the existing regulatory framework.

Another application of LNG, which is particularly emerging in Europe, is as a fuel for heavy commercial vehicles. "Truck manufacturers have already introduced vehicles with LNG engines, where their major advantage is autonomy, as LNG occupies a much smaller volume compared to CNG (compressed natural gas)."
