Losses exceeding 30 million euros are recorded in the income of table grape producers in Corinth, who are in a particularly difficult position.
According to the Agricultural Association of the Municipality of Velos-Vochas, the region has suffered the most losses, typically stating that in 2022 the weather conditions created irreversible consequences (e.g. prolonged high temperatures, frost, untimely and in places intense rainfall), as well as the high cost of production and the war situation in Ukraine.
Also, from the middle of 2019 until today in the wider area of the prefecture of Corinthia, the annual rainfall has decreased from 40% to 70%. This drought has led to a water shortage and eventually a drought in 2022. The most significant impact is the dramatic reduction of water in the underground aquifer and the supply of boreholes from 80% to 100%. Without any doubt all of the above led to total destruction of production. It is clear that the consequences of the weather conditions are very great and the damages that have been caused are not covered by the ELGA regulation.
