The unemployment rate fell to 11.9% in the fourth quarter of 2022, recording a 1.3% drop compared to the corresponding period of 2021, according to the data announced today by ELSTAT.
However, on a quarterly basis, a marginal increase in unemployment was recorded, as the corresponding percentage of the previous quarter (3rd quarter 2022) was 11.6%.
In the last quarter of 2022, there were 558,416 people unemployed, a figure that increased by 0.5% compared to the previous quarter, but decreased by 9.6%, compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
The number of employees was 4,135,231 people, showing a decrease of 1.9% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 2.0%, compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Women and young people consistently top unemployment rates
The unemployment rate remained higher for women (15.7%) while the unemployment rate for men stood at 8.8%.
The negative primaries are still held by young people, as the unemployment rate among 15-19 year olds was 39.4%, among 20-24 year olds was 28.2% and among 25-29 year olds 22.9%.
In terms of geographical distribution, the highest unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2022 was recorded in Thessaly (16.2%), followed by Western Macedonia with 15.2% and Central Macedonia (14.9%).
