For a case with serious complaints, which is in the hands of the Justice, the government representative, Yiannis Oikonomou, spoke on the occasion of what is coming to light on the subject of SYRIZA-PS MEP Alexis Georgoulis.
As he told the radio station "Parapolitika 90.1 FM", "we are not going to make any attempt to instrumentalize it. Neither with generalizations, nor by substituting the judgment of Justice, nor by saying that if things are like this, an entire party and its voters are characterized - with things and with hashtags and characterizations that our opponents were quick to attribute to us and to make politics with them in the past - not even to condemn".
According to Mr. Economou, since the case is now in the Court, "there is a process. The judicial assessment is the one that will draw its conclusions. We are not the same, we will not be the same. The official opposition party, as it was entitled to at this stage, when there is an investigation against one of its executives for very important complaints and accusations, removed him from the Eurogroup and from the party".
The deputy minister in addition to the prime minister pointed out that in another case, "where there is even a unanimous conviction for the most serious crime of dereliction of duty, this politician remains at the forefront of the official opposition and on the SYRIZA ballots. This is a political criticism, so that the world can understand what strong ties - possibly - exist, and they are not catalyzed even by a unanimous conviction, and indeed by a court staffed by supreme judges".
As he added, "we will not instrumentalize, we will not make characterizations, we will not generalize, we will not make political speculation in something that the Justice will decide on.
The difference with which we manage such cases as a government, as New Democracy, in relation to the official opposition, the approach, the generalizations, the slanders, the insults, is obvious to the whole of Greek society. We have not and will never do politics with such issues," said Mr. Economou.
