Alexis Tsipras called the government's amendment for the bloc in the Kasidiari party "institutional disrespect" in his speech to the Parliament and accused the government of becoming Kasidiari's best sponsor and of manipulating the judiciary.
The Minister of the Interior, Makis Voridis, responded to Mr. Tsipras, saying "join us and vote for the provision, otherwise you are heavily exposed."
The leader of the official opposition said from the floor of the Plenary of the Parliament addressing the minister of the interior that he was saying the same thing a few weeks ago, while SYRIZA had tabled an amendment that would solve the problem, an amendment by respected constitutionalists of the country. In fact, he accused the government of refusing the amendment of the Left, saying that it was turning a blind eye to the Golden Dawn.
“Here we were a few weeks ago and you were saying exactly the same thing. And we didn't just warn you about the institutional fallacies, but we also brought a clear proposal that solved the issue. In fact, it wasn't even our original position, but it was the common recommendation of what the most reputable constitutionalists and jurists of the country had testified in the public debate. We had and have our position, but here precisely because we recognize that such a decision must meet with the maximum possible democratic consent, we joined the view expressed in the public debate by distinguished jurists of the country. And we tabled this amendment in Parliament. And you refused, without arguments on the merits and only with insults. That SYRIZA turns a blind eye to Golden Dawn.
“If your first intervention was correct, why do you keep coming back? You made an amendment and a law that violates the Constitution and apparently you failed to convince the judges. Mr. Gerapetritis isolated the judges around the Maximos Palace and after you realized that there is no majority, you decided to make a new arrangement. Your institutional brutality will lead to the worst outcome. You become the best sponsors of the Kasidiaris party."
He also said: "These are unprecedented things for the Republic. It's sad. I understand that this is probably how you have been used to dealing with judges for four years, this is how you are probably constantly trying to manipulate justice, but in this sensitive case that concerns the protection of the Republic from its enemies, the protection of the Constitution from those who wish to catalyze, your institutional insanity, your brutality and amateurism, lead to the exact opposite result. And in the end you become the best sponsors of the extreme right and the Kasidiaris party. Because with what has been recorded in public life in the last few days, you are giving arguments to those who file a combination in order to appeal for the annulment of the elections to the Supreme Court, the Electoral Court, but also to the European Court of Human Rights".
Mr. Tsipras also left sharp points against Makis Voridis, saying that with his past, it would be strange to accuse the Left of turning a blind eye to the Golden Dawn. "I wonder if the Prime Minister does the same with all the parties of the Left."
The battle with fascism is daily and it is out there and the institutional response must be clear. So we are calling you because they are at risk of being in front of Europeans who insult our Democracy. I invite you to take the obvious. Don't do even more damage. A mistake cannot be corrected with a mistake," said Alexis Tsipras.
The president of SYRIZA began his speech by attacking the prime minister
He began Alexis Tsipras's speech in Parliament about the blockade in the Kasidiari party by attacking the Prime Minister, saying that in today's last session of Parliament before the elections, one would have expected the Prime Minister to come, but he is afraid of the confrontation and that is why he sent the post of the Minister of the Interior Makis Voridis.
Afterwards, Alexis Tsipras made an assessment of the four years, saying what Mr. Mitsotakis had promised and what he did and what he didn't. Mr Tsipras accused the prime minister of cutting taxes only for the rich and powerful, as indirect taxation that hits the vulnerable has not been cut by the government.
"With what you say you add to the anti-system, to the blur, to the rage, outraged again, we go full circle. Seats must be clean. PASOK has said things, Mrs. Liakoulis, Mr. Kastanidis have contributed to the formation of the provision. Join us, otherwise you will be heavily exposed", answered the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Makis Voridis for his part.
Economou: Mr. Tsipras chose not to stand against the criminal organization
To what Alexis Tsipras said in the Parliament, the government representative Yiannis Oikonomou also responded. In his statement he states that Alexis Tsipras cannot bear the truth that crushes him morally and politically, it shows how unsuccessful a prime minister he has been and how he lags behind Kyriakos Mitsotakis at every level.
Regarding the negative stance of SYRIZA on the amendment to block the Kasidiari party, the government representative emphasized that he chose not to stand against the criminal organization.
The statement of Mr. Economos
Mr. Tsipras repeated in one of his speeches, all the lies he has been spouting for the whole 4 years. He resorts to a succession of sky-high lies, because he cannot bear the truth that crushes him morally and politically. The truth of the events shows what a failed prime minister he was. And the truth of the facts shows that he has nothing useful to contribute to tomorrow, because he lags behind Kyriakos Mitsotakis on every level. Mr. Tsipras, on May 21, will understand that repetition does not turn lies into truth. He will understand that in the face of the underestimation of the intelligence of our people but also the contempt for reality, Greece will boldly, firmly, move forward.
PS We expected that even at the last moment he would agree to erect a wall against the participation of a criminal organization in the elections. He did not do it. He chose not to stand up to them. And it wasn't the first time. We leave it to the judgment of democratic citizens.
