With the broad majority of the Parliamentary Groups of New Democracy and PASOK, it is expected that the improvement regulation that prevents the participation in national elections of criminal organizations that wear the cloak of a political party such as the Kasidiari party will be voted.
On the other hand, SYRIZA is oriented either to abstain from the vote or to participate but declare "present". In any case, the choice once again of the party not to support an amendment for the institutional block in the Kasidiari party reinforces the voices from the majority who argue that the official opposition is trying to fish in the murky waters of the anti-systemic vote.
It is recalled that a few months ago the leader of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, announced a parliamentary intransigence, informing that his MPs will abstain from all parliamentary votes as a symbolic gesture of protest against the government's initiatives. However, he clarified then that the vote on the Kasidiaris amendment will be an exception, accepting the request to broadcast a strong democratic message in every direction from the Parliament.
Nevertheless, in the crucial vote of the initial amendment which called on the relevant department of the Supreme Court to ascertain whether the formal and actual leadership of the parties meet the criminal conditions for taking part in an electoral contest amendment, SYRIZA chose to declare "present" arguing that the governmental regulation is unconstitutional
In addition to SYRIZA, KKE, MERA25 and Hellenic Solution are expected to vote negatively.
It should be noted that the discussion of the amendment started yesterday in the Public Administration, Public Order and Justice Committee and that the position that the parties will take in tomorrow's vote in the Plenary is clearly stated.
Mitsotakis: In the Parliament, everyone will assume their responsibility
"We are bringing a new amendment that enables the full composition of the Supreme Court to interpret the law we have passed and to raise this wall which should under normal circumstances unite all democratic forces", said Kyriakos Mitsotakis and continued: "Tomorrow in the Parliament, each and every one will assume their responsibility. Those who will not vote for this amendment are the same ones who are finally turning a blind eye to the "Golden Dawn". They are the ones who ultimately want this form to be found in the parliament somehow. I want to remind in the past whenever needed he accompanied them. Together they voted to bring down the government of Antonis Samaras. And for the changes to the electoral law, they had cooperated together.
Here, then, everyone will be judged. And I make an appeal to all the democratic forces of the country tomorrow, essentially the last day of parliament's operation before the Parliament is dissolved, to finally agree. Let's put aside any differences and realize that this issue is a major issue of Democracy. "Golden Dawn" is a criminal organization, condemned. We must not relive in the Greek parliament what we experienced during the times of crisis. And all together let's raise an obstacle, an embankment to these plans that some are making. And I hope that, finally, by tomorrow, logic will prevail. Short psalm though, tomorrow we will know and everyone will finally be held accountable for their behavior. And, you know, the real intentions are hidden in the vote in the parliament and not in the words."
Economou: SYRIZA's attitude is incomprehensible and dangerous
"Regarding the initiatives to exclude criminal organizations with the guise of a party in the elections, our position was and is clear, in contrast, unfortunately, to other parties that, either from the opposition, or from small-party mathematical calculations, or because they want to fish in the murky waters of the extreme right, they are reacting, but not caring about the consequences of their choices both at the political and national level" said the government representative Yiannis Oikonomou in the briefing to the government editors. At the same time, he underlined that "SYRIZA's stance on such an issue is incomprehensible and dangerous. SYRIZA must leave half-talk and deliberate ambiguity, as this issue is extremely serious and touches the hard core of our Democracy. Any instrumentalization of institutionalism around this issue is both impermissible and unforgivable."
Gerovasili: We let the government take responsibility for itself
On the part of SYRIZA, Mrs. Olga Gerovasili, speaking to SKAI, announced that her party will not support the regulation, supporting the position of "neutrality". "When the legislative regulations come before the elections they have a load which is obviously not positive. So there we discussed, we submitted proposals because no party was in agreement, regardless of whether PASOK voted in the end. We chose the attitude of neutrality, i.e. the "present".
Amateurism in the government's movements carries risks, and we in these government amateurisms will not participate, we will let it take the responsibility alone. We risk becoming sponsors of the criminal organization because of the amateurs. The government has failed to bring in regulation that leaves them out.
The problem is with the government because it did all these amateurish things, it didn't listen to us or PASOK, even though it voted and now it criticizes the government negatively.
The government appears just before the Parliament closes to correct a mistake with a mistake and we are in danger of seeing the Golden Dawn from a criminal organization, being prosecuted" said Mrs. Gerovasili.
PASOK: We contribute creatively with the aim of defending Democracy
From the PASOK side, a comment from Harilaou Trikoupi's press office states "PASOK-Movement for Change from the first moment emphasized the need to defend the Republic against the phenomenon of a criminal organization, which hides under the cloak of a political party, at a time when The government of the New Republic watched idly for two years as the condemned members of the Golden Dawn campaigned from prison.
For this purpose, we submitted our proposals leading to substantial and legal technical improvements of the provision for the exclusion of neo-Nazi formation.
If our proposal to introduce the issue to the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court had been heard, we would not have reached today's unpleasant developments.
The Government's new, unilateral and sketchy legislative regulation would not be needed.
Despite this, as a party of the democratic arc that has firmly and steadfastly stood against neo-Nazism, we will contribute creatively with a view to the defense of Democracy and as recently stated by the President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, we will fight so that it does not find a place in the Parliament neo-Nazi formation".
