US President Joe Biden has officially announced that he will seek a second term in the 2024 presidential election, according to a campaign video posted online.

In the video released early Tuesday, Biden called the upcoming election a "battle" against Republican extremism.

"When I announced my candidacy for president four years ago, I emphasized that we are in the midst of a battle for the 'soul' of America. And we're still going," he says in the video, which opened with images of the abortion protests at the US Supreme Court.

"The question we have to answer is whether in the coming years we will have more or less freedom. More rights or less rights," Biden points out in the video. “I know what I want the answer to be and I think you do too. This is no time for complacency. For these reasons I will be a candidate for re-election", notes the US president.

Biden's official announcement puts an end to any doubt that appeared in the public debate about his intentions. The US president, as reported by CNN, enters the race with an important legislative project as his legacy, but at the same time low approval ratings. In addition, the president - already the oldest in history - often receives criticism regarding his age.
