The approval of the draft concession contract of the Attica Road was given by the board of directors of TAIPED.
According to the text, the new contract provides for the reduction of tolls after the new concession and for a period of five years to 2.5 euros from the current 2.8 euros. The new concession holder has the right to adjust the toll, but after the five years have passed and by submitting a request for an increase that is documented by the traffic conditions of the highway.
It is recalled that the specific term in the draft contract was entered after consultation between TAIPED and the previous leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, which had requested the reduction of tolls.
It should be noted that TAIPED had proposed a different pricing system for the passage of vehicles. Tolls in non-peak hours would be reduced and in peak hours they would be increased acting as a disincentive for drivers to pass.
On Attiki Odos, in recent years, there have been traffic jams at several exits and the above-mentioned proposal was aimed at decongesting it.
The competition
The tender for the new Attica Road concession is in its final phase and the date for submitting binding offers has been set for May 29, 2023.
However, it is assumed that the aforementioned deadline will be extended due to the investment uncertainty caused by the election period.
Eight syndicated schemes have reached the final phase of the competition. The new concession will last for 25 years, while the existing one expires in October 2024.
