The fact that out of the thirteen regions only 2, namely Crete and the southern Aegean, is experiencing population growth is a cause for concern. According to the official results of the Census of the Legal and Permanent Population for 2021 by ELSTAT.
The total population of Greece is 10,482,487, showing a decrease of 3.1% since 2011. 48.9% are male and 51.1% are female. The population of the thirteen regions in detail:
