The injury of a Serb from a shooting in northern Kosovo is causing new tension in Belgrade-Pristina relations.

Serb Milan Jovanovic was shot at midnight, minutes after he drove his car through a police roadblock near the town of Zvečan. He was seriously injured, taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery.

The North Mitrovica hospital announced that he had a penetrating wound from a firearm projectile on the left side of the chest. His health condition today is stable and his life is not in danger.

He told Serbian media that he did not know where the shots came from, but said that the incident happened within the area where the military-police base "Bistrica" is located in the city of Zvečan.

The Kosovo Police Command announced that "there was no police involvement last night in a shooting incident."

For its part, the Kosovo office of the Serbian government considers it certain that Kosovar policemen fired and accuses the government of Albin Kurti of trying to intimidate and terrorize the Serbian population in Kosovo.
