A 53-year-old ex-convict was referred to the Autoforo Single-Member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki for allegedly harassing a 24-year-old girl who was walking on the street, and then masturbating in front of her.
Criminal proceedings were brought against him for insulting sexual dignity and decency as well as for illegal carrying of weapons.
The incident happened in the early morning hours of Wednesday, in eastern Thessaloniki. According to the case file, the defendant riding a bicycle approached the 24-year-old woman from behind and hit her on the buttock, as reported by GRTIMES. Immediately afterwards he stopped in an adjacent grove and masturbated in front of her. The girl filed a complaint with the police. He gave a description of the perpetrator who was spotted outside a kiosk in Kalamaria and was taken to the department where he was identified by the victim. A folding knife was also found in his possession.
When questioned by the police, the 53-year-old claimed that he had consumed a large amount of alcohol and did not remember anything, while regarding the knife he said that he had it for personal protection.
In response to a related question, he stated that he had previously served a multi-year prison sentence, including for murder.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case and lifted the 53-year-old's detention.
