Another step for equal access, the active and meaningful participation of people with disabilities, as well as the creation of a society without discrimination and exclusion, was carried out with the parameterization of the electronic ticket in Museums and archaeological sites.
Now, our fellow citizens with disabilities, with a simple scan of their Digital Disability Card, have direct and free access to the Archaeological Sites and Museums under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, without the need to issue a ticket. The Companion enters in the same way, where this is provided for based on the scale of disability.
As Lina Mendoni pointed out, "Universal access to cultural goods is an absolute priority for the Ministry of Culture and Sports and for the Government as a whole. It is the right of all our fellow human beings, as Culture improves our quality of life. In the context of an inclusive society and the equal access of all our fellow citizens to Culture, the Digital Disability Card was created, which facilitates the daily life of people with disabilities and at the same time functions as a Culture Card. We are bringing back the Culture Card, which was introduced in 2003 and was abolished by the SYRIZA Government in 2017. The Digital Disability Card entitles PWDs and their companions to access Culture venues with dignity - without being mandatory anymore the on-site certification of their disability - and their free entry to Archaeological Sites and Museums. At the same time, we are promoting the extension of the operation of the Card to the supervised bodies of the Ministry of Health, in order for people with disabilities to have the greatest possible coverage. The operating specifications of the Digital Disability Card were formulated with the assistance of the National Confederation of Persons with Disabilities (ESAmeA), with which we have a solid and substantial cooperation. The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, and her colleagues were instrumental in the creation of the Card. The President of the Board of Directors of ODAP Nicoletta Valakou and the executives of the Organization worked exemplary to reach the result that satisfies us all".
Domna Michailidou, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, referred to the digital disability card and its implementation thirty years after its establishment. It is a necessary service that functions as an identity and as proof of disability and ensures the access of its owner to the services and goods to which he is entitled. At the same time, he emphasized the active policies of the government in the last four years, with the aim of equal access and integration of people with disabilities in society, places of culture, as well as the labor market, but also the right of everyone for universal accessibility to culture.
Domna Michailidou stated the following: "Access to culture and participation in cultural life is not a luxury, but an integral part of our daily life. It is not the privilege of a few, but the right of all. As a State, we must ensure this right and access for all without exclusion. And that's exactly what we do. With the Minister of Culture and Sports, Lina Mendoni, from the first moment we worked closely in this direction. Today we are taking another step, for the convenience of our fellow citizens, as now the holders of the Disability Card do not need to issue a ticket to have free access to museums and archaeological sites. For four years now, with substantial actions, we continue to make the daily life of our most vulnerable fellow human beings even easier and to improve their quality of life, creating the conditions for the creation of an inclusive society. An equal society that accommodates us all. We continue. We don't leave anyone behind."
